Why do dogs dig?
While digging is a puppy behaviour which most dogs grow out of, it can progress into a destructive adult habit.
Common Reasons for digging:
- Being left alone
- To create a cool, comfortable place to sit
- Separation Anxiety
- Social Isolation
How to stop digging
- An active or occupied dog is less likely to cause destruction and digging (for ideas, see “Ideas to keep your pets occupied”)
- Install an Electronic Dog Fence. Electronic fences can be placed anywhere in the yard to protect your garden, fences and gates.
- Tethering your dog. Tethering only recommended as a last resort as it can result in increased barking and possible aggression
